Shekeres are traditional percussion instruments with a hollow body and an outer net of beads, shells or seeds, creating bright, expressive rhythms when shaken, twisted or struck. Our collection includes natural gourd shekeres, cowrie shell shekeres and durable fibreglass shekeres, each with its own tone, feel and character. Natural gourds may vary slightly in size, shape and finish, making every piece unique. Sometimes searched for as gourd cabasas, these instruments are more accurately known as shekeres due to their bead or shell net construction.
