The Ghanaian double agogo bell is a traditional West African percussion instrument made from two iron bells of different sizes, mounted on a wooden handle. Each bell produces a distinct pitch when struck with the included beater, making it ideal for creating rhythmic patterns, accents and interlocking percussion parts.
This medium-sized agogo sits comfortably in the hand and produces a bright, clear tone that carries well through ensemble playing. Although similar in appearance to traditional cowbells, the double agogo is designed specifically as a musical instrument and offers two contrasting tones from a single handheld instrument.
Agogo bells have an important place in Ghanaian music and have since become widely used in Afrobeat, samba, world music and modern percussion ensembles.
