We launched our first music education book, the Complete Kalimba Player, to bring years of learning, experimentation and community feedback into one accessible resource. The aim was simple: create one comprehensive place for people to learn how to tune and play the kalimba without searching through scattered tutorials.
How It All Started
Our journey began with a coconut thumb piano. It was fascinating to play, but the instrument sounded out of tune, and understanding how to tune it was a challenge. We started experimenting with different tuning methods and sharing what we learned on YouTube. Our early song tutorials, including “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “You Are My Sunshine”, attracted people who wanted to learn to play familiar melodies. A video showing how to tune a coconut thumb piano, published in 2020, also drew a substantial audience.
Built Around Our Community
As more people watched, they asked for help with specific songs, simpler tuning methods and clearer ways to read music. We explored letter notation, number notation and kalimba-specific approaches, looking for ways to make each technique easier to understand. Instead of leaving answers scattered across individual videos and comments, we wanted one universal source of truth: a complete, affordable guide that brought the essentials together.
Our First Music Education Book
The result was our first book, published on 28 September 2024. It brings together tuning guidance, notation, chords, exercises and a collection of songs to help players progress from their first notes towards playing music with confidence.
